Résumé: Considerations of form, function and meaning indicate that the σημασία-texts accompanied
the items to be sent: P. Oxy. XXXIV, 2719 and P. Osl. Inv. 1621 (= S.B. XVI, 12550)
were written instructions carried by the courier. Suggests that the two papyri were
returned to their respective sender together with the recipient's letter of reply.
