21 V P. Ryl. Gr. 1 = Trismegistos 65562 = LDAB 6813

Introduction

Collection of prescriptions (BKT 3, p. 10 + P.Ryl. 1.21v + P.Rein. 1.2v). Several fragments belonging to different collections but coming from a single roll containing on the recto a treatise on physiology (BKT 3, pp. 10-19 + P.Ryl. 1.21r + P.Rein. 1.2v). On the verso, medical prescriptions were transcribed, but now the text is almost completely lost, and just described by Schöne and Kalbfleisch (Berlin fragments) and by Hunt (Rylands fragments). The transcription attempted by Reinach (Paris fragment) is indeed very fragmentary. It is hard to understand the possible relationship between the two sides of the roll: the German editors noted a certain similarity in the handwriting, but this was rejected by Hunt. The text is dated between the 1st cent. BC and the 1st AD.

(This papyrus has been digitally edited by Nicola Reggiani as part of the Project "DIGMEDTEXT - Online Humanities Scholarship: A Digital Medical Library based on Ancient Texts" (ERC-AdG-2013, Grant Agreement no. 339828) funded by the European Research Council at the University of Parma (Principal Investigator: Prof. Isabella Andorlini). The digital edition is mostly based on the previous editions (Th. Reinach, P.Rein. I 2v; descr. K. Kalbfleisch - H. Schöne, BKT III, p. 10; A.S. Hunt, P.Ryl. I 21v).)
