Summary | Papyrus petition from Petosiris, the village scribe of Oxyrhyncha in the Arsinoites (modern name: Fayyum), Egypt to the strategos Ptolemaios, a high civil and army official in the region. Petosiris complains that another high official(?) extorted money from his village. Due to the extortion, the village could not afford to pay workers to perform necessary tasks, such as maintaining dikes. To the left is a documentary text in Demotic (P.Duk.inv. 317 V (a)). On the recto is another documentary text in Demotic (P.Duk.inv. 317 R) |
