Title Organization of the Delivery of Oil

Summary In this letter N��jid b. Muslim informs ìAbd All��h b. Asìad that he sent him a symmachos (Ar. samm��k) by the name of Peter to collect what the people of his district owe in oil-taxes. N��jid further instructs ìAbd All��h to send some of his own symmachoi and his k��tib to help Peter with the collection and transportation of the oil. If, however, ìAbd All��h encounters delay, N��jid has instructed Peter to come to him to be assigned some more scribes and symmachoi from ìAbd All��h���s colleagues. N��jid orders ìAbd All��h to hurry the completion of his commands and not to obstruct any of them, but to be trustworthy in completing this task, using an unusual expression for part of these otherwise very familiar orders. Condition Light brown papyrus. The original cutting lines have been preserved on all four sides. Written with a thin pen, in black ink perpendicular to the fibers on Recto, parallel to the fibers on Verso. Some small holes and one larger piece are broken off on the right side causing slight damage to the text.

God besides Whom there is no god but He. ;5. I have sent you Peter, the symma[chos ;6. to collect what the people of your district owe ;7. in oil. When this letter of mine comes to you ;8. send with him your symmachoi for the collection ;9. of that. And I have already ordered him, in the event that you ;10. find delay in its collection and transport, ;11. that he should come to me with your scribe and your symmachoi ;12. so that I may give them additional scribes ;13. belonging to your colleagues and their symmachoi. And hurry ;14. to carry out what I have ordered you. ;15. And be trustworthy in what you have to do. And let he not be cheated ;16. by you in anything of what I assigned to him of the collection ;17. of the oil and the calculating.
