Title Deliveries of Oil from Some Villages

Summary N��jid writes ìAbd All��h that an unnamed symmachos came to him whom he had wanted to assign the tax collection (of oil?) from a specified group of people (ahl min al-ahl min al-ìuhud). The symmachos claimed that he had sent oil from some villages as well as some other produce to Madinat al-Fayyum. Support/Dimensions 1 papyrus ; 22.6 x 34.3 cm
Condition Light brown papyrus which is darkly discolored in places. Written with a thin pen in dark black ink perpendicular to the fibers on Recto, parallel to the fibers on Verso. The ink has faded in many places. The original cutting lines have been preserved on all four sides. The top left corner is broken off and several large holes in the papyrus have made much of the text difficult to read and interpret.

Recto: ;1. In the name of God the Compassionate, the Merciful. ;2. From N��jid b. Muslim to ìAbd Al[l��h b. Asìad. ;3. Peace be] upon you and I praise for you God ;4. besides Whom there is no god but He. ;5. Further, (vac.) t[he sym]machos came to me and I wanted ;6. to allot to him that which the people of the agreements had promised him. ;7. But he mentioned that he [already] took the oil from the villages ;8. and that he will sent to [the town? ] what he had and that he had de[posited ;9. already at the city [before] this of the . . . whatever there was ;10. of the doing [to] the accomplishing?. So show to him ;11. in your letters if what he mentioned ;12. of that is true [ . . . ] And let the inhabitants pay the taxes ;13. And order?
