Title Purchase of Different Commodities

Summary Salt b. al-Muh��jir starts his letter to ìAbd All��h b. Asìad with very extensive opening greetings and blessings. While the lines that follow are only partially legible, Salt seems to write that he was unable to answer ìAbd All��h���s letter asking him to buy him something due to the unavailability of messengers. He then writes in response to another letter from ìAbd All��h that he bought him two din��rs worth of chick peas as requested. ìAbd All��h had also asked Salt to pay back a debt of ten din��rs sending his servant Zayd to collect the money. Salt writes that he is only able to send five din��rs with Zayd, the two din��rs worth of chickpeas and three more din��rs in cash. Condition Light brown papyrus. The original cutting lines have been preserved on all four sides. Two large holes at the top and bottom right sides have resulted in the loss of three to four words at the beginning of four lines. There are some smaller holes in the papyrus. Written in black ink with a thin pen, perpendicular to the fibers on Recto, parallel to the fibers on Verso. Two horizontal folding lines have damaged the ink and fibers of several lines at the beginning of the text and one line towards the end of the letter.

Hands There are few diacritical dots. F���� has a dot under the letter (line 19 asfal). Final mim has an unusual form especially in its lose standing form (l. 15 qadama).

Peace be upon you and I [praise ;3. for you God, besides Whom there is no God but he. (vac.) ;4. May God be satisfied with us and with you in all things ;5. in His mercy and may He make us and you of the people of paradise through His strength and His ;6. power. (vac.) ;7. As I am writing to you we are, thanks to God, in all well-being and health ;8. and we ask] God for its goodness for us and you. (vac.) ;9. Your letter has reached me] mentioning your health and that has pleased me. And you wrote me ;10. about my . . . concerning . . . and I will buy �Ǫ from �Ǫ ;11. the letter but for a shortage of messengers. ;12. And you wrote me that I buy you for two din��rs chick peas and I have ;13. already done so and I have sent them with Zayd, your servant. ;14.
