Notes

  • 7.

κερ̣νοφόρο̣[ς], κερ̣νοφόρο̣[υ], κερ̣νοφόρο̣[ν], κερ̣νοφόρο̣[υς], κερ̣νοφόρω̣[ι] and κερ̣νοφόρω̣[ν] or -ῶ̣[ν] are all conceivable, although the crescent shape right before the lacuna may favor ω. The lacuna before Κυβέλης is quite large, but spacing between letters tends to vary throughout the papyrus (cf. the beginning of line 8 where the letters ῆιπ are written relatively far apart), so that we cannot say for sure how much is missing.

  • 2.

] ̣υα̣σ̣φθα[, a radically different reading, leads us nowhere; οφθα̣λ̣μον is better than οφθα[λ]μω̣ν.

  • 3.

Traces before εροι are compatible with λ, μ, or λλ, thus θαλεροι, μαλεροι, ημεροι, would conform paleographically; δολεροι does not fit the traces and ιμεροι is probably too short.

  • 4.

An alternative, though less likely, word division is φοβερη τ εδρακον̣ τόζ̣[, but the accent above -τοζ[ favors the printed reading.

  • 5.

The last letter may be υ̣, τ̣, or π̣.

  • 9.

An apparent circumflex over a lost letter in this line is visible below and slightly to the right of the last nu in line 8.

  • 13.

Below the line is a wavy stroke that looks more elaborate than a paragraphus.

  • 14.

This and the following line are in ekthesis ca. 3 letters.

  • 1.

π̣λη is also possible, and it is conceivable that the second letter is chi.

  • 3.

    σα̣β̣α̣ι̣, σα̣β̣ε̣ι̣ or σε̣β̣ε̣ι̣; instead of β, κ also possible.
