Hp. Flat. 8-10. The papyrus consists of two fragments (5 x 8.5 cm; 4.5 x 8 cm) belonging to the same roll. On the verso, 35 lines of a single column interrupted by a central lacuna of ca. 2 lines. Top and bottom margins of ca. 1 cm and 1.2 cm, respectively, have survived. The scribe makes repeated use of on-line blank spaces to articulate individual sentences (see ll. 14, 23, 27). The papyrus preserves relevant portions of Hp. Flat. 8-10; its place in the history of the textual tradition of Flat. seems to be quite independent and cannot be related to either of the two branches of the medieval tradition. The text was copied in a severe style and dates back to the 3rd cent. AD. On the recto, scanty remains of two consecutive columns of another medical work drawn up in an informal round hand assignable to the late 2nd cent. AD.

βίη γὰρ τὸ αἷμα βιαζόμενον διὰ στενῶν ὁδῶν θερμὸν ἐὸν οὐ δύ ναται περαιοῦσθαι ῥηιδίως· πολλὰ γὰρ ἐμποδὼν αὐτῶ κωλύματα καὶ ἐμφράγματα· διὸ δὴ καὶ οἱ σφυγμοὶ γίνονται μάλιστα περὶ τοὺς κρο τάφους οἱ μὲν οὖν πυρετοὶ διὰ ταῦτα γίνονται καὶ τὰ μετὰ τῶν πυρετῶν ἀλγήματα καὶ νοσήματα· τῶν δὲ ἀλλων ἀρρωστημάτωνν ὁκό σοισι μὲν εἰλεοὶ ἐπανειλήμα τα ἢ στρόφοι ἢ ετεραια α ἐντεραῖαἐντεριαῖα ἀποστηρίγματαἕτεραι ἀποστηρίγματα φυσέων ἐστίν αἴτια, πᾶσι ἡγεῦμαι φανερὸν εἶναι· πάντων γὰρ τῶν τοιουτέων ἡ ἰητρικὴ τοῦ πνεύματος ἀναρύσαι· τοῦτο γὰρ ὅταν προσπέσῃ πρὸς τόπους ἀπαθέας καὶ ἀήθεας ποτὲ δὲ πρὸς τὰς λαπά ρας, ποτὲ δὲ πρὸς ἀμφότερα· διὸ δὴ καὶ θερμαίνοντες ἔξωθεν πυριήμασι πειρῶνταιπειρῶνμαλθάσ σειν τὸν πόνον· ἀραιούμενον γὰρ ὑπὸ τῆς θερμασίης διέρχεταιθερμασίης τοῦ χρωτὸς διέρχεται τὸ πνεῦμαπνεῦμα τοῦ σώματος, ὥστε παῦλάν τινα γε νέσθαι τῶν πόνων. ἴσως δ’ ἄν τις εἴποι· πῶς οὖν τὰ ῥεῦματα γί νεται διὰ τὰς φύςας; ἢ τίνα τρό πον τῶν αἱμορραγιῶν τῶν περὶ τὰ στέρνα τοῦτο αἴτιόν ἐστιν; oἶ μαι δὲ καὶ ταῦτα δηλώσειν διὰ τοῦτο γενόμενα. ὅταν
