Introduction

Hippocrates, De natura hominis 15 & 16 (= De diaeta salubri 1). The papyrus fragment (10.5 x 12.5 cm) preserves the bottom of a page from a squared codex of rather poor quality. The codex is characterized by wide margins, and contained a single column of 23-24 lines. No lectional signs survive. The medical text on side B, written along the fibers, contains part of the 15th chapter of Hippocrates' De natura hominis, while the text on side A, across the fibers, is from the beginning of Hippocrates' De diaeta salubri (= De natura hominis 16 Jouanna). The sequence of the two works demonstrates that the last chapter of the De natura hominis, also known under the title De diaeta salubri, belonged to the same treatise also in the Late Antiquity. The script is informal and slightly sloping, and can be assigned to the 6th c. AD.

(This papyrus has been digitally edited by Francesca Corazza as part of the Project "DIGMEDTEXT - Online Humanities Scholarship: A Digital Medical Library based on Ancient Texts" (ERC-AdG-2013, Grant Agreement no. 339828) funded by the European Research Council at the University of Parma (Principal Investigator: Prof. Isabella Andorlini). The digital edition is mostly based on the previous edition (J.W.B. Barns, P.Ant. III 185; descr. A. Lami - D. Manetti, CPF I.2.1 18, 11).)
