Introduction

Medical prescriptions. Light-brown papyrus of poor quality and almost opaque, written on one surface along the fibres; the back is blank. It is very damaged, and preserves parts of 15 lines of continuous text. The space of about 1 cm between l. 2 and l. 3 is likely to indicate the beginning of a new section, regarding certain medical prescriptions. The writing is cursive and careless; it is remarkable the abbreviation of πρός at l. 12.

(This papyrus has been digitally edited by Andrea Bernini as part of the Project "DIGMEDTEXT - Online Humanities Scholarship: A Digital Medical Library based on Ancient Texts" (ERC-AdG-2013, Grant Agreement no. 339828) funded by the European Research Council at the University of Parma (Principal Investigator: Prof. Isabella Andorlini). The digital edition is mostly based on the previous edition (W.J. Tait, P.Tebt.Tait 43).)

Notes

  • 4.

    For [ῥ]η̣τίνης φρυκ̣[τῆς] see Gal. Comp. med. per gen. 3.2 (13, 589.4-5 K) and Paul.Aeg. 3.59 (CMG 9.1, 270.8-9 Heib.).

  • 5.

The traces at the end of the line are very indistinct, and, if τέρμινθος is in question, it is impossible to determine how it was spelt (τερμ-, τερεμ-, τερεβ-).

  • 13.

There is a slight but distinct space before the first letter.
