Notes

  • 1.

The editor believes that a reference to John the Baptist (εὐα[γγελιζομένου]) is likelier than to John the Evangelist (εὐα[γγελιστοῦ]), based on the content of line 3.

  • 3.

Citing Mark 1:4 and Luke 3.3 (=κηρύσσων βάπτισμα μετανοίας), the editor restores [τὸ βάπτισμα τῆς με]ταν̣οία⟨ς⟩ ἐκύριξεν. For the passage, generally, he compares Acts 19:4.

  • 5.

The editor would restore the verb [ἀν]υμνήσω̣[μεν] (after ὣς ψάλ[λοντες] in the previous line), citing Christ and Paranikas (1871) 147.271.
