Introduction

List of ingredients. The papyrus scrap (12 x 7,8 cm) preserves the upper margin to 0,8 cm and the left-hand margin to 1,3 cm, but is broken off to the right and at the foot. The editor princeps described the papyrus as a list of ingredients for the preparation of an unguent; the second editor regards the text as an unprefaced table of medicinal substances with amounts, maybe a itemized list of ingredients of a therapeutic prescription. The presence of substances having emollient and warming properties next to astringent and cleansing items may suggests the recipe could produce a cicatrizing plaster for spreading ulcers. The text is written in unattractive, yet not unpractised, separated letters with occasional lapses into more cursive script, datable to the late third century BC according to Luiselli (contra Wagner, second century BC).

(This papyrus has been digitally edited by Francesca Bertonazzi as part of the Project "DIGMEDTEXT - Online Humanities Scholarship: A Digital Medical Library based on Ancient Texts" (ERC-AdG-2013, Grant Agreement no. 339828) funded by the European Research Council at the University of Parma (Principal Investigator: Prof. Isabella Andorlini). The digital edition is mostly based on the previous editions (ed.pr. = G. Wagner, P.Eleph.Wagner 4; ed.alt. = R. Luiselli, GMP II 11).)
