Title Receipt for rent
Author Herakleia, also called Himira, daughter of Melas
Summary Herakleia receives 3 1/2 artabas of wheat as her share of 8 1/2 arouras in the vicinity of Polydeukeia. In the cases of leases of land it is generally the lessor (- owner) who pays the taxes. From the fact that Saolis is paying the artab tax it may be inferred that he and Herakleia had the 8 1/2 arouras in common ownership. the share received by Herakleia is small but not without a parallel.

Hands At the left there is a margin of 1.5 cm, while at the bottom 10.5 cm and at the top of 1 cm. The text runs along the fibers on both sides. Three vertical afolds are still visible.

Herakleia, also called Himira, daughter of Melas, through her husband Demetrius to Saolis, farmer, greetings. I have received from you the rent for the 8th year -my half share of the 8 1/2 arouras in the vicinity of Polydeukeia - 3 1/2 artabas of corn. The artab tax has to be borne by you.
