Introduction

Medical prescriptions or letter of medical content. The text, copied on the recto, is paralleled by the so-called 'antidote of Philon', an Hellenistic doctor, and listed among the colic remedies by Gal. Comp.med.sec.loc. 1.4 (13, 267-9 K) and Paul.Aeg. 7.11-3 (CMG 2, 300.10-5 Heib.). Recipes are articulated through one-line blank spaces (ll. 5-6, 7-8). The recipe lists pyrethrum (pellitory root), poppy juice and parsley of Macedonia among the vegetable drugs. The script is a byzantine cursive similar to the hand of P.Acad. inv. 46 (petition; same hand as LDAB 738), characterized by suspension of final upsilon. The fragment (9.5x8 cm) was probably cut off and recycled from a protokollon (scanty traces of a document survive on the verso, l. 1).

(This papyrus has been digitally edited by Luca Iori as part of the Project "DIGMEDTEXT - Online Humanities Scholarship: A Digital Medical Library based on Ancient Texts" (ERC-AdG-2013, Grant Agreement no. 339828) funded by the European Research Council at the University of Parma (Principal Investigator: Prof. Isabella Andorlini). The digital edition is mostly based on the previous edition (J.-L. Fournet, SB XXVIII 17139).)
