1 Valeria Elpinike alias Philoxene the most excellent, through Aurelius Pekysis son
of Polion, chief shepherd, to Aurelius Kalamos son of Hatres from the village of Neiloupolis,
greeting. 3 Since you leased right from the first year of the rule of Claudius, the month of Choiak,
the flocks formerly belonging to Flavia Isidora alias Kyrilla, to the number of fifty,
both male and female, equal numbers in fleece and sheared, and five goats; 7 and my manager Aurelius Dionysios, former kosmetes and councillor of Alexandria, has
ordered them to be transferred into the Memphite nome ... 9 I agree that I have received them and taken them over from you and taken them away
into the Memphite and handed over according to his instructions the animals equal
numbers in fleece and sheared and five goats to Aurelius Sabinos, chief shepherd,
without distinguishing mark, all in full, and when asked the formal question I gave
my consent. 14 Aurelius Pekysis, about 57 years old, scar on his face.
16 1st year of Lucius Domitius Aurelianus Pius Felix Augustus and 4th year of Julius
Aurelius Septimius Vaballathus Athenodorus the most illustrious king, consul, Emperor,
general of the Romans, Pachon 28. (Translation: from Rowlandson, Women & Society,
pp. 238-239 with the addition of line breaks)
