- 2021-02-24T15:27:47-05:00 [james.cowey]: General - Here are comments made by W. Clarysse (mail from 10.02.2015) "I can see
-σισουχος instead of -θισουχος : the theta is normally larger and not so circular
(more vertical), the sigma needs a dot, but is not unlike that in βασιλικου in l.4,
written in two strokes. The probem is the preceding epsilon. I thought at first to
read Μαρησισουχος : after all the name is Μαρ(ρ)ης. But all his etas have the capital
high rising form H, never the cursive form, which would fit here. I donot know : the
identification with Marresisouchos must be right, but what letter was written there
escapes me."
- 2015-02-25T11:33:45-05:00 [james.cowey]: General - I have corresponded with Willy Clarysse on this. I shall add his comments.
- 2015-02-25T10:52:12-05:00 [toniasarri]: Vote - AcceptText - Accept. I also think that I see Μαρε̣σισούχου.
- 2015-01-14T09:46:14-05:00 [simoeis]: Vote - AcceptText - I prefer Zellmann-Rohrer's proposal of Μαρε̣σισούχου to Μαρσεισούχου.
The wavy crossbar of epsilon is similar to that of the second epsilon in ἱερέως in
the same line; it extends into the subsequent sigma, giving the illusion of an epsilon
instead of a sigma before iota. In my opinion, the problem with Μαρσεισούχου is that
it presumes an unusual form for sigma after rho: one would expect to see the lower
part of this purported sigma, which would also be atypical for having a top stroke
that starts very low, almost on the baseline.
- 2014-12-19T09:03:48-05:00 [james.cowey]: General - Here is the wording of the vote given previously: "Accept-Straight-to-Finalization
- Accept. (Heidelberg seminar.) We have taken account of the suggestion made by Zauzich
(in Apis) and prefer the suggestion here."
- 2014-12-19T09:00:58-05:00 [james.cowey]: General - Originally I had found the suggestion made by Zellman-Rohrer good. After
consideration and rechecking the letter forms in the handwriting on the papyrus I
think that the suggestion made by Zauzich to read Μαρσεισοῦχος is better. I am going
to ask others to look at this and give and opinion.

APIS Translation (English)
To Ptolemaios, the (king's) cousin and strategos, from Marres son of Marseisouchos,
priest of the great god Soknebtynis and also a cultivator of Crown land, living at
Tebtunis in the division of Polemon. I have been excessively unfairly treated by Harmiysis,
the writer of contracts of the said village. The accused conspired together with Thracidas
son of Apollonios, an inhabitant of the said village; in Thoth of the present year
I made a lease of the six arouras of Crown land belonging to me near the said village
at a fixed rent for the whole of 36 artabas of wheat; but Harmiysis instead of that
sum made a lease for 30 artabas of wheat, on the ground that from the whole amount
I had received 6 artabas as a pledge, such not being the case (Here the papyrus
breaks off.)
